Paintings and Drawings by Jemisi Obanjoko

Mr. Obanjoko says:

"As a painter, I am a part of the whole scene of Black life in a small way. At best, I record the lifestyle of people.

The creative impulse of the Black Movement is massive, and above all, devoted to the Black community first, last, and always. It is the awareness of truth, and the truth is that we have done so much for others, now we must do for ourselves."

"This is not a cultural renaissance as it was in the 20s, but the "berry" that is bringing forth the sweet juice of our foreparents' hard labor. This is why my paintings are no longer a protest, for I see a more important role: to speak to my brothers and sisters about building and controlling our own destinies."
